The only flaw in above is ignoring CP and assuming all 140K Quota to AOS. The majority of EB1, EB2 and EB3 are AOS. So I am safely ignoring CP. Even if CP is 15% of annual quota as some one put it, EB3 gets its allocated 40K quota and around 65K pending EB2s get out of queue.
I agree that it should be current. But knowing CIS ability to process, Shouldn't we ask DoS to move date of EB2 and make them current. So that the CIS will not waste them. They wasted earlier, So they can do it again.
It takes an year if not 2 for them to clear the new I485s. I don't anticipate many. But there will be some..

President Bush last night called for 'stronger immigration enforcement and border protection' even as he told Congress to move forward with his plan to create a guest-worker program to fill jobs that no Americans want.

The only way to keep the United States competitive is to create an immigration system that 'upholds our laws, reflects our values and serves the interests of our economy,' he said.
'Our nation needs orderly and secure borders. To meet this goal, we must have stronger immigration enforcement and border protection,' Mr. Bush said. 'And we must have a rational, humane guest-worker program that rejects amnesty, allows temporary jobs for people who seek them legally and reduces smuggling and crime at the border.'
The president pushed for his guest-worker plan in his past two State of the Union addresses as a way to help employers, but this year his focus on border security and immigration enforcement was much clearer.
'There has been continual movement on his part because he recognizes the Congress and the American people aren't with him, and we're going to fight him,' said Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican.
He and other Republicans took issue with Mr. Bush for not differentiating between legal immigrants and illegal aliens when he said the economy could not work without immigrants.
Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican, said U.S. workers would be hurt by a guest-worker program.
'Studies show that competition from cheap foreign labor depresses wages and takes jobs away from American citizens and legal immigrants alike,' Mr. Smith said.

In the official Democratic response to the State of the Union, Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said Mr. Bush does not have a rational immigration policy and that the result is a 'confusing patchwork' for states and localities to handle.
He shied away from a specific call for a path to citizenship for illegal aliens, even though most party leaders in Washington have endorsed that.

I agree with Saralayar and dontcareanymore has point. I think we should ask the conditional green card first for people who are in this country last 10 years and/or are waiting for GC more than 5 years. I don't see any issue for giving conditional green card. At least we will not have to worry for AC21, we could freely change the job, and we could buy a house. USCIS can give permanent green card once the visa number is available. I agree with dontcareanymore that the clock for citizenship should start from the date of approval of I-140. Once we have conditional green card, we could be out from this uncertainty. I don't know how we could proceed for conditional green card. But we need come together and if it is required we could talk to attorney too.

So then we all need to agree that the person foreclosing has no right to blame the lender. It is people like you and me whose tax money will be used to bail out banks that have the right to blame them AND the borrower! :)
100% with you. What is so irritating is that these guys (both bank and the individuals) are getting away with 'nobody saw this coming'. I have been begging my friends not to get into this mess for years. If I can see this, I am sure the banking professionals, economist would have seen this too. They just wanted to make money (greedy %&*^%^&*). Probably they thought the government will bail them out since all the banks are doing it anyway. After this mess is cleaned out, no one will again talk about flipping house for a long long time:D

So it looks like airline/airport personel know about AP and would not make a fuss for not having a valid unexpired visa in your passport if you carry your AP.
It's curious though why the guy wanted to see your EAD when EAD has nothing whatsoever to do with travelling.

I traveled through AA (Frankfurt) --> Gulf Airways (Bahrain) --> Madras and ultimately to Tirupati by Car, While going to India no one cared to ask for any documents not even in Frankfurt. By the way if you don't know this, you don't need a TV for Germany if you have AP. While coming back (I just came 2 weeks back), the officer at the Immigration counter looked at my passport and asked me how can i travel to US with an expired US Visa. I didn't give him my AP with my passport coz I was lazy to take AP from my bag. Finally I showed him my AP and he let me in. Now all the officers in India know about AP. They wont be surprised looking at the AP. In Bahrain I had a lay over of about 13 hours. Gulf Air gave me hotel accommodation. At the Bahrain immigration counter, the officer flipped 2-3 pages in my passport and didn't even care to look at my visa/AP. In Frankfurt, while boarding the AA flight to Dallas, the lady at the AA counter verified all my documents even my office badge. If possible carry your office badge/ID card with you. If you don't have one it should be OK because you are not required to carry and you can always tell them that you are not carrying. Since I showed her my AP, she took all my documents including my badge to her supervisor for the approval and finally gave me the boarding pass. In DFW the immigration was like a piece of cake. I was the second person in the queue. CBP officer after taking my finger prints took me to an officer (Secondary Inspection). The officer at the Sec inspection verified all my documents in his system and asked me to show my EAD. After checking my EAD, he said its not mandatory to carry EAD but safe. The whole process took less than 15 minutes. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Well, Me being a devils advocate I will agree with you. Because I recently saw Gandhi movie. Gandhi took 50+ years being the citizen of the country. Some people think that is very slow. Some think thats the most effective strategy. So from your perspective its waste of money and time as there are no quick returns.
Vinabath i do NOT expect the nation to put Legal Immigration before the IRAQ WAR. Ofcourse I do not expect that. What I am trying to point out is that this is going to be a LONG LONG ongoing issue and if not the war, there will be OTHER issues like the presedential elections etc.
On another note, the US is a capitalistic economy. If you are not selfish, ur a nice guy and nice guys finish LAST.

I personally do not travel through a country that are biased and requires a transit visa for specific countries only. If you think about it, most of the international flights are full of us, Indians. If everybody (including Indians with GCs, that do not require a transit visa) start boycotting such airlines/country transits, then they will have to change this policy.
As I said before, I am never going to fly thru UK, even though I sill have a transit visa valid till Nov 2008. I can still feel the pain.

On FEb 4th my wife and myself went for H1-B visa renewal interview at Chennai Consulate. Both visas got approved. My wife passport was returned with in 3 days. It seems they have found her petitition online. My passport stuck with consulate. I called consulate today, and they have asked me to call back next week end. She said they were not able to locate my petition online.
How long it can take? 1 week or 2 weeks or 1 month? Please provide your experiences for those passports took more than 3 days. I have seen max 1 month in the forum.

First let me state that I need people like you to proceed and hence I will be happy to answer the points you rasied to the best of my ability:
We all agree that there is severe backlog. Only way the backlog will alleviate is by increasing visa numbers, which not going to happen any time sooner.
So some people (and I know around 10 of them) what they are doing is the following:
They got the chance to file their 485 last July , which is pending. They are now contacting several small desi consulting firms to file for their fresh labor in EB2 category. Once their labor is filled and new I-140 is approved, they plan to attach new I-140 to the original 485 and hence effectively convering to Eb2 category but with priority dates in 2002 and 2003 (because original I-140 had that priority). Worst, they would never join that desi consulting firm...
This how the system is being gamed. If I know 10 such cases, I am sure there must be thousand like that.Now you tell me , isn't that unfair to the people already in Eb2 line as well as the ones who do not know how to game the system
By the way: If any one is interested, I know of three such consulting firm that can do for you for a fee.
Though, it is unfair one can not do legally, as long as USCIS recoconoze the the job offered at desi consulting companies are genuine and real "fulltime permanant job". They may be gaming the system..it is their model of bussiness to make money..and it is well supported by lawyers, lobbyists and ofcourse benefit seeking employees. It looks like atleast 75% of EB2 I with priority dates 2004 seems to be approved, this should bring down the count of 2004 less than 1000 may be little more than 1000.

2. Got the "we mailed you a notice that we have approved " on Sept 9th

This is approx data from last year DOS yearly report.
EB1 = 41k
EB2 = 53k
EB3 = 42k
EB4 = 11k
EB5 = 2k
Total was ~ 150 k ( 140k + 10 K from Family Quota's Spill over )
so basically EB1 and EB2 row didn't give any spill over , it was EB5 and family based spill over.
This year we will not get family but instead EB1 will give same share so in the end total spill over for year will not be more than 20-22k.
I think you have wrong info... Last year, EB2 I&C did receive spill over from EB2 ROW, EB1 (~3K), EB5.. Also from reading other posts it is my understanding that in fact there was NO spill over from Family Based.
I could be wrong though!!

EB2 = 53k
EB3 = 42k
EB4 = 11k
EB5 = 2k
Total was ~ 150 k ( 140k + 10 K from Family Quota's Spill over )
so basically EB1 and EB2 row didn't give any spill over , it was EB5 and family based spill over.
This year we will not get family but instead EB1 will give same share so in the end total spill over for year will not be more than 20-22k.
I think you have wrong info... Last year, EB2 I&C did receive spill over from EB2 ROW, EB1 (~3K), EB5.. Also from reading other posts it is my understanding that in fact there was NO spill over from Family Based.
I could be wrong though!!

I am twice bitten... by photos at Walgreens
Don't even think. I took PP for passport renewal. VEry bad quality.
Still I went to Walagreens and took PP for visit visa to Canada. Rejected by Canadian Consulate in Seattle. Don't waste your time and money.
In Denver / Aurora - there is H-Mart (or HAR Mart). I am also thinking of going to Costco. 6 photos for above age 14 ; else 4. That is what my attorney asked.
Costco! Way to go, cheaper, better and perfect!
Among friends we say, "In costco we trust!"
